Covering a small area west of La Cala de Mijas and east of Calahonda, Riviera del Sol is a peaceful district urbanised to accommodate seasonal visitors and (semi) permanent residents. Timeshare and holiday rental accommodation is a large part of the Riviera theme with the Miraflores resort including 1030 apartments and 18-hole golf course nearby
With the location being so close to the plentiful amenities in Calahonda and La Cala de Mijas, Riviera del Sol is by no means short on facilities. To further support the local population, there are a number of shops, supermarkets, convenience stores, bars, restaurants, banks and a small shopping centre with bureau de change. The more recent (2005) construction of the Riviera Plaza hosts retail outlets, cafe-bar, a supermarket and is a convenient retail point of the area.
There are a number of bars in the area that are well-known and serve as landmarks. David’s bar, George’s bar and Charley’s bar are just a few of the most popular bars serving food and drink day and night.
By far the most renowned landmark is also sited in this area and is the OpenCor convenience store that can be seen from the main road N-340. OpenCor’s are dotted along the coast and serve as very convenient places to shop open very early until very late 365 days of the year for all your essentials.
The area has a safe, clean, sandy beach which is home to a number of chiringuitos which are popular places for a refreshing drink and a bit to eat in summer. At the entrance to the Riviera beach is the Max Beach venue which is a particularly impressive setting for evening cocktails and dinner. Set on the shore it offers panoramic views across the Mediterranean Sea, al fresco dining of an international menu with the gentle sounds of the waves lapping in over the sand – perfect ingredients for a very memorable evening at sunset. Also in this area are the equally popular Riviera Beach restaurant, The Far Isle restaurant and Bar Shenanigans.
