Mijas Costa is the coastal part of the municipality of Mijas which covers a 12-kilometre stretch of coastline between Fuengirola and Marbella. Starting at El Faro, the beachside district amalgamates El Chaparral, La Cala de Mijas, El Combo and Calahonda and includes the two biggest and most notable urbanizations of Riviera del Sol and Sitio de Calahonda.
Although just a twenty minute drive from the traditional, white-painted village of Mijas, which hosts an abundance of the more traditional Andalucian customs, the residential and touristic character of Mijas Costa has evolved over recent years to offer a lifestyle rather more in keeping with modern day expectations.
The two largest urbanisations of Sitio de Calahonda and Riviera del Sol are catchment areas which have expanded the most rapidly to form large, prominent villages in their own right. With a high volume of timeshare properties and second homes, from studio apartments to huge private villas, both resorts enjoy a strong blend of rental tourism, timeshare and permanent residency and are popular with Spanish and non-Spanish nationalities.
Facilities along the coastline are varied and quite considerable with something for everyone, especially in the form of restaurants and bars. Beach tourism is very much the main attraction during summer and so the majority of amenities are tailored with that in mind.
The commercial centre of El Zoco in Calahonda is home to a magnificent array of bars, restaurants and eateries offering culinary delights from around the world. Several late-night venues can also be found here and is just a step away from the equally established landmark of McDonald’s, housed along the opposite side of the main carriageway.
Other prominent leisure points along the A-7 Mijas Costa main road include Max’s Beach bar-restaurant and El Oceano beach hotel, restaurant and spa which offer a special setting with panoramic Mediterranean sea views.
The beach life stretches the entire coastline and water sports ranging from jet skis, waterskiing, wakeboarding, windsurfing, parapenting and much more are offered.
Combined with amenities such as commercial centres, supermarkets, golf courses, sports centres, beach-bars and restaurants for every day living, Mijas Costa holds an abundance of establishments for every taste and budget, on and off the beach and the crystal blue waters of the Mediterranean sea.
