Puerto Banus is an exclusive harbour to the west of Marbella which, over the past few decades has grown to garner a global reputation as a refined playground for the rich and famous. Nowhere else in Spain can there be found quite such a collection of designer boutiques, expensive sports cars, celebrities and of course yachts, all gathered in one place.
The fashionable port of Banus is just a five minute drive from Marbella town centre and is a very popular venue for both locals and tourists to enjoy a truly excellent night out. Puerto Banus offers a quite astounding array of restaurants, although most of them are somewhat more expensive than not. There is also an abundance of bars and discos which, all combined, offer a huge choice of celebrated premium entertainment to be best enjoyed late into the night.
Shopping in Puerto Banus is perhaps just as popular as the late-night merriment, particularly for those with a well-provisioned wallet. The large department store of the national company chain ‘El Corte Ingles’ offers an indoor, air-conditioned shopping experience avoiding the need to venture outside. With plenty of undergound parking and carrying a reputation for merchandising a range of virtually everything imaginable, this really is a retail paradise for shopaholics.
For those with more powerful purchasing power, a select proffering of world-famous designer boutiques, quite literally, line the marina. Gucci, Versace, Louis Vuitton are just a few of the biggest names in the world of elegant and fashionable designer labels, although it is important to remember to look at the price tags before trying on for size!
Many people visit Puerto Banus to view the huge yachts that are docked in the marina, or to look at the seemingly endless row of supercars that are usually parked along the front-line promenade: this much at least is free. Some of the world’s largest private yachts can be found moored in the marina for all or at least part of the year, particularly during the summer ‘celebrity season’. Numerous semi-discreet opportunities to rent a luxury yacht for just a day or two can also be found by those seeking to do so. Hiring is perhaps the most cost-effective way to fulfil a memorable maritime experience without the costly restraints of boat ownership and most of the hire vessels are marketed to complement the party theme and magnificence of Puerto Banus. The vast majority of boats certainly are sized to host a large number of guests.
The beaches of Puerto Banus are, as might be expected, of the finest to be found on the Costa del Sol. A number of areas along the beaches have become home to super-trendy beach-clubs where five-star facilities can be enjoyed and champagne corks can very frequently be heard to be popping. For those who get bored on the sunlounger, watersports equipment rental is perfectly possible in a number of places in Puerto Banus and there are also some excellent fishing facilities to be found.
