Andalucia reservoirs at highest levels since 1998
The heavy rains over the winter period have increased water levels at reservoirs around the province to levels not recorded since 1998.
Levels at reservoirs currently average 95.5% and floodgates have had to be opened to release water in some cases.
According to statistics released by the Andalucian Water Agency, La Viñuela reservoir is holding 92.9% of its capacity. This figure has come as a relief to people living near to the lake who have witnessed the water levels drop significantly over the majority of the last decade prior to last year.
The recent very heavy rainfall in Guadalhorce has led to the reservoir having the floodgates opened to release 50 cubic metres per second of water through the dam. Despite this, the level is still at 99.7% of its capacity.
Water levels in reservoirs across Andalucia as a whole are currently at 86.2% of the region’s total capacity.
